From Kelley McBride, CEO of Tennis Serves Others: “It is truly an honor to live out our mission statement in all that we do: play tennis, serve others, love all. As an organization that is young and growing, we feel honored to make an impact in the lives of those we serve. Because of a little yellow ball and in five short years, women playing tennis on the courts of Orange County, Calif., have made a difference in the lives of teen parents, deployed military, homeless, wounded warriors, special needs athletes, orphans in Africa and Peru, domestic abuse victims, families who lost children to pediatric cancer, youth tennis players and therapeutic animals. Our impact is felt and it is humbling and gratifying to know that in addition to playing a sport we love, we are changing lives.”

Shoutout LA

Hi Carol, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
It’s tough to choose just one book that has positively impacted and guided me, but two books come to mind: The Four Agreements by Luis Ruiz and The Bhagavad Gita: A Walkthrough for Westerners by Jack Hawley. The Four Agreements conveys a simple, but powerful, message to better your life by abiding by the following agreements (below).

Carol, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Tennis Serves Others started in January 2016. It started from an inspiration and a desire to help others. Utilizing my past experience and with the help of tennis friends whom believed in the concept, we worked together to form an organization, a new type of “tennis team”, to use our passion for tennis to serve others. We were fortunate to have the support of Public Law Firm and Darren Guttenberg from Latham and Watkins, who worked with me to write the bylaws creating a solid structure for TSO.

Great Non Profits
November, 2016

Our first annual gala and tennis tournament in May 2016 allowed us to give $10,000 to Wings for Crossover, a non-profit dedicated to helping (through sustainable food and educational opportunity) the orphans and former slave children in the Lake Volta region of Ghana. Our Tennis Soles for Others program has provided hundreds of gently used tennis shoes to organizations such as Tijuana Christian Mission, Friendship Shelter, Mary’s Kitchen, OC Rescue Mission and Laura’s House to name just a few. Our Round Robins have allowed us to donate money and other charitable items to organizations such as Ronald McDonald House, CHOC Hospital, Orangewood Foundation, Meals on Wheels and Green Dog Foundation amongst many others.
